John Burrill and his photography and framing company 'Mostly Birds' specializes in photographing birds of Haida Gwaii. Mostly birds, that is...but that's not all! John also captures stunning images of our local landscapes, pets and livestock-many of which he turns into beautiful framed prints and cards that can be purchased from him directly or can be found at many participating Haida Gwaii retailers. "My interest in photography began over 50 years ago with a Kodak Brownie box camer and a course in black and white photography. In combining my interest of photography and love of birds of Haida Gwaii, I began to photograph them and then framed my favorites.
Prints Then, with the encouragement from Barbara Small at Sitka Studio in Tlell, I started displaying a few framed prints and began making and selling cards. There are many bird lovers on the islands so my photos proved to be popular. I then invested in better equipment and framing tools to improve the display quality."
Cards J ohn is a director with the Delkatla Sanctuary Society where where he donates some of his time and photographs to help promote the well being of our wildlife. To date, John has photographed 66 or so of the 270 species of birds on the islands and as he states, " I have many more to look forward to!" A Sampling of John Burrill's Photos: Enjoy!
